Veggie Burgers with Actual Veggies in Them

The vegetarian section of the frozen food aisle is crowded with burgers and nuggets that look and taste like meat. If you want a veggie burger that actually tastes like beans, grains, or vegetables, what should you buy?

We purchased 12 frozen veggie burgers in a huge variety of styles, from “California” to “super greens” and “mushroom risotto.” Some were more successful than others.

As fans of falafel and chickpeas, we were optimistic about the two that were made from a base of chickpeas. But one was dense and pasty, while the other was dotted with unpleasantly dry, hard chickpeas.
