As I sit here at the chart table of my relatively modern classic, I’m surrounded by all the wonders humanity has contrived to tell me exactly where I am, how I should proceed to where I like to hope I’m going, what ships of any substance are within range of my AIS, and whether they might come close enough to merit attention. Perhaps most remarkable of all is the ability to see clearly through fog.
It’s hard for me to get my head around the plain fact that a whole generation of sailors is at sea now who have never known anything else.
