In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot had Prufrock reflect, “I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.” It’s a quote that engenders a sense in me that J. Alfred and I are kindred spirits, although lately it seems I’m embracing a larger scale and, instead of spoons, am measuring my life in coffee shops, or cafes.
These days I have a floating
