oliday romances can be wonderful, but for my money, it’s holiday friendships that are underrated. Plus, they’ve got a better chance of lasting! There’s something about being away team got thinking about holiday friendships after seeing our main photo on the We love you! spread over the page. It shows four friends catching up, 40 years on from when they first met in Europe. Sharon and Rosalia were besties, and so were Sue and Ellie. The happy foursome, all from down under, had a fabulous time exploring the sights. They even got a fellow tourist to take a photo of them all, standing in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris. And they stayed in touch over the years. Deputy editor Sarah met Pamela 16 years ago when they were staying at the same hostel in Melbourne. ‘Pamela lives in Scotland and we’re still good friends,’ said Sarah. Senior writer Lisa actually met her husband Darren when they were both on a working holiday, in Donnybrook, WA, in 1997. ‘We were picking pears and became good friends, along with a whole lot of other young people doing the same work,’ said Lisa. At the time, there was no spark, but Lisa and Daz kept in touch as mates. Years later, friendship turned to romance, then to marriage. Now they have a teenage daughter, Ava. ‘It wasn’t a holiday romance, but it definitely turned out well!’ said Lisa. We’d love to hear about your holiday romance!
