Maui’s Spring Wahine Tournament

On April 22, 2023 I was blessed with an opportunity to participate in the 2nd Annual Spring Wahine Fishing Tournament out of Ma’alaea Harbor on Maui.

Last year, I had a really lucky run and helped win the tournament with Team HINATEA with a 33.5-lb mahimahi. We had to come back to try and uphold our title.

This year the conditions were absolute perfection and a lot more fish were caught overall, making this an exciting event for the crew and ‘ohana of the 23 boats that entered.

Tournament organizer Kathleen Birmingham said, “I was crew helped to cook the food for the banquet, which was delicious and allowed for a lot more prizes this year too… I was so inspired by all of the young kids that participated and were a part of the event, that I want to plan a keiki offshore fishing tournament soon too”, she said.
