PLANTING OIL PALM OR DURIAN?

Since 2018, one of the most frequently discussed topics in the plantation industry is: should we replant oil palm or grow durian instead? The market shows drastic changes at different points in time when it comes to this matter. In year 2018, oil palm seedlings were in surplus, but faced shortage in year 2021. Indonesia and Malaysia are the world’s largest palm oil producers and exporters. However, the oil palm industry has long been criticised and pressured by public opinions internationally.

They face discrimination from the European Union, coupled with environmentalists always making things difficult. From palm cultivation to oil production, and even the associated commodities are being dragged into this.
