REDISCOVERING THE LEGENDS

FEATURE

I have been to Paris several times because it is known to me as "the city of light" and the centre for the work of many historical as well as contemporary photographers. I like its history.

When I'm there, I like to walk in the areas of Paris made famous by photography pioneers such as Eugene Atget and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

On a recent visit with my family, we decided to go to three of the main cemeteries in the city centre - Pere Lachaise, Montmartre and Montparnasseto see how many tombs of famous artists, politicians and philosophers we could find. The highlights were finding the monuments to Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Degas and Emile Zola.

Then came a picnic at the Montparnasse Cemetery. Here I had a special moment that only returned when I first opened Peter Adams' monumental book on 20th century photographers, A Few Of The Legends.
