Easily Cracks Yet Difficult To Break Out Of Penang Island BITTER GREEN DRAGON

One would be spoilt for choice when visiting Penang, especially the island since there is a plethora of durian varieties that can be found there. Among them is the Green Dragon durian variety.

“Green Skin 15, which is fondly known as Green Dragon is a specialty of Balik Pulau,” said Aiden Chong.

Aiden Chong’s orchard which is located in Balik Pulau covers an area of 47 acres. The main durian variety planted in this orchard is the Green Dragon, with a total of more than 100 trees. The Green Dragon durian has a peculiar shape. It resembles a crescent and has a thin skin. This means the fruit is prone to crack open easily. Thus, it cannot be stored until the next day after it has ripened and dropped. As a result, Green Dragon is only sold to the locals as it is nearly impossible to export them to
