Malaysia is said to be a blessed nation, rich in natural resources including fertile land and clean fresh water.
However, due to development and agriculture, much of the forest and bio-diversity has been destroyed. Hence, land is a valuable natural asset as it is not ours alone but also that which is shared with other living beings.
Therefore, we have to hold true to the pledge that we made in 1992 as presented by our 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad at the Rio Earth Summit to conserve at least 50% of the nation’s rainforest.
We are on the verge of reaching the quota, if not already done. The only other way to increase agricultural yield rather than expanding agricultural land size is to intensify production within the existing agricultural land. This calls for the adoption of precision agriculture.
Precision agriculture is a concept describing agricultural practices that are optimized to maximize yield quality
