A drop in the ocean

How do you choose a favourite anchorage? Is it the anchorage with good restaurants and bars nearby? Is it a place that is safe and secure from all winds? Is it the uncrowded anchorage with spectacular scenery? Is it a place lost in a time warp so it seems like somewhere from 20 years ago? The destinations, the harbours and anchorages that I have chosen are an eclectic and personal choice. These are not places you will read about in fashionable magazines, places you must be seen in to be part of the in-crowd. They are not well known. They are places that I love returning to for a lot of different reasons, though if there is one identifying strand running through them, it is that they have their own essential character and, once you have been there, they will impress themselves on your memory as one-of-kind places. France has one of the shortest and least indented coastlines of many of the countries around the edge of the Mediterranean so good all round shelter anchorages are few and far between.
