In each of the last five years we have seen an average of 14 new 50ps, five new £2 coins and 14 new £5 coins. So far in 2023, The Royal Mint have issued or officially announced ten 50ps, three £2 coins and seven £5 coins, either individually or as part of a set. So we can expect a few more ‘surprise’ issues before we see the sixth Snowman 50p issued this Christmas.
Fifty pence pieces
We should all be on the look-out for the standard (no crown) portrait Coronation 50p in our change in the coming months. It is unusual to have different versions of the same coin where one is packaged Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) and the other struck for circulation. Unless The Royal Mint issue a second packaged BU Coronation 50p collectors will be looking to find one as soon as possible in near uncirculated condition.
