Paris, here we come

GREAT BRITAIN boxers Delicious Orie, Charley Davison and Rosie Eccles are all heading to Paris for next year’s Olympic Games, after qualifying from the European Games in Poland.

Davison became a two-time Olympian by beating Swedens’ Zehra Milli to reach the last four at 54kgs in Krakow, and Eccles made up for the disappointment of missing out on Tokyo by qualifying with a tight points win over 2022 World Champion Amy Broadhurst in their 66kgs quarter-final.

Super-heavyweight Orie fought back tears after his semi-final win over Yordan Morejon Hernandez (Bulgaria) made him an Olympian, and the 26-year-old from Jewellery Quarter ABC in Birmingham went on to win gold with a unanimous points win over Mahammad Abdullayev (Azerbaijan).

The final was Orie’s fifth bout in eight days at the Nowy Targ Arena.
