Like many girls growing up, Shubshri Kandiah loved Disney movies. For her, though, one princess stood out more than most – Mulan. “It was a woman of colour in the hero role – she literally saves everyone,” she says. “It was something I could connect with because it’s not what I saw in my everyday life. A lot of the time, at school or uni, I was one of the only people of colour and quite often felt ‘othered’.”
