M27, the Dumbbell Nebula

Patrick Cosgrove, Honeoye Falls, New York, USA, 2–4 August 2021

Patrick says: “M27 was a childhood favourite. I wanted to see what detail I could capture of the outer gas shell, so I photographed this in narrowband in 2021. I was amazed at how different the individual Ha, OIII and SII images were from one another! More recently, I went back and enhanced the detail in the outer shell, which provides a very different view of M27.”
