A family history

Learning objectives

■ How to create a family history or journal of memories
■ Tips and techniques for creating maps

Whether you are producing a project on family history or perhaps a local community one, you may well find the need to include a map. On an expedition or when spending some time in mountain regions, I usually include at least one sketch-map in my A4 sketchbook, sometimes adapting a local tourist map if suitable, which Iparticular interest to my itinerary, or story. In the case of my grandfather's story, the map of the Jacobsdal area, where he was wounded, is not of great significance, but it gives an idea of the remote terrain encountered.
