Kumi Naidoo learnt tough lessons

MY FRIENDS and I never set out to become “activists” as such. It was something we got drawn into by the challenging circumstances of our times, living under apartheid.

Young people today face a different set of challenges, but these are no less urgent or demanding. The climate crisis is affecting us all, and the coming decade will determine the kind of future humanity will have on this planet, or whether we have a future at all.

My own experience has taught me that young people can make a decisive difference in the world, locally and globally, by bringing their energy, insights and idealism to the table, even when the challenges we face seem overwhelming.
