WHEN I WAS at school, I decided I wanted to become a scientist. After I had left, I spent seven years at university gaining qualifications, before joining an industrial company to work on the reduction of pollution from motor vehicles.
At the same time, I have always had an interest in birds: both wild and the various types of academic work trying to understand how birds work and how that relates to how the human brain functions.
