(1935-2023)
Luis Suarez, in1960 the first and only Spaniard to win the Ballon d’Or, was a pioneer in both the tactics and language of football through his exemplary genius for turning defence into attack.
The death of Suarez at 88 was mourned both in his native Spain, where he garnered his fame, and then in his adopted Italy where he earned his fortune and admiration.
