The train arriving behind in Penzance behind No.6938 in ‘West is West’ on p416 of our July issue is, of course, a down train. Ed.
Staines to Wokingham
I would like to point out two errors in the article Staines to Wokingham in the July 2032 issue. On p422 the map shows the line from Wokingham to Reading Marked as ‘Reading West’ This is in error as the line terminated at Reading South station (It was renamed from Reading Southern). Reading West was the first station on the line from Reading General platforms 1,2 and 3. On p429, the picture of Wokingham station with a “Steam -auled train leaving for Reading”, the footbridge is at the east end of Wokingham station and as such the train is a train leaving probably in the direction of Redhill and Guildford.

One correction is needed: I stated the electrified sidings at Staines had been abandoned. Not so: they are now back in use.

Hereford reflections
I do not wish to gain the reputation of a pedant but Michael Baker's ‘Hereford Reflections’ (June edition) stated that Credenhill station closed to passengers in 1951. However, a WR timetable of summer 1955 showed five stopping trains in each direction on weekdays and I'm fairly certain that the station (along with the entire Hereford–Hay–Brecon line) remained open to passengers until 31st December 1962. Freight remained until summer 1964 and, as my family moved to Hereford in spring 1963 to a house near the line, I remember seeing the LYR 0-60s chugging along. We moved too late
