‘What is a fancier?'

THERE is no doubt the term “fancier” is often shrouded in mystery. “What is a fancier?” is the question now before me, and I will attempt to answer it. [A long passage of waffle follows which I have omittedEd (2023).]

A true fancier is an individual who, by strenuousproper mating, rearing, feeding, and exhibiting of pure-bred livestock, whether equine, canine, poultry, pigeon, rabbit, or cage birds. A true fancier is one who by word, action and influence does all in his or her power to rid this country of the “mongrel”, and you will find that the genuine fancier is one who studies and takes a delight in pedigrees, strains, and pure breeds, and who feels it his bounden duty, whenever an opportunity offers, to raise his voice by sounding the keynote to that well-known fanciers' song: “Blood will tell.”
