City’s attitude angers ratepayers

‘we’re responsible for their salaries’

RATEPAYERS were left dissatisfied after a meeting about a rates boycott with the city led to a walkout.

Mxolisi Kaunda, the mayor of eThekwini, addressed the Westville Ratepayers Association (WRA) and more than 20 other ratepayer bodies at the Westville Civic Centre last Thursday.

Various heads of department from the eThekwini Municipality also attended.

Kaunda said although the city had a constitutional mandate to deliver services to its residents, withholding of money owed to the municipality remained illegal.
