IT’S PABLO-MATIC: PICASSO ACCORDING TO HANNAH GADSBY

all the women. in me. are tired. –Nayyirah Waheed

The first text that you read, under the moniker “Opening Gambit,” features a quote from Hannah Gadsby: “Picasso said, ‘You can have all the perspectives at once!’ What a hero. But tell me, are any of those perspectives a woman’s? Well, then I’m not interested.” What follows throughout the show is a variety of (mostly) women’s perspectives. Unsurprisingly, since “women” is hardly a homogenous and coherent category in itself, these perspectives don’t all align or agree.

There are a lot of works that – as some critics have lamented – don’t appear to have a lot its opening gambit.
