A TRUE SURVIVOR

This Morris Mini Minor was built in November 1960 and first registered in February 1961. I bought it in 1996 when Minis hadn't really taken off in value. I paid a couple of grand for this one and remember thinking at the time that it was way too much, but it was low mileage and totally unmolested. An added bonus was that I actually remember this particular car from when I was a child because it used to belong to a friend of the family.

Us kids used to call that owner Aunt Helen, and years later I spotted her car advertised by a trader and recognised the number. It had a slipping clutch, bad brakes and was just very scruffy. I found out later that the dealer had only paid £600 for the Mini and didn't do a thing to it, so he did all right out of the deal! I would probably still have bought it even if it hadn't been a car I knew though, because I was in the market for an early Mk1 and this one was so original with only 38,000 miles on the clock.
