IN FLOWER NOW
Symphyotrichum ‘Little Carlow’
ormerly an aster, but now ‘Little Carlow’ may not roll off the tongue quite as easily, but it’s still a must-have plant for this time of year. Clouds of small mauve-blue daisies cover mounds of fine foliage, attracting butterflies and bees while it’s still warm enough for them to forage. It looks superb with grasses (try molinia or chionochloa), russet sedums, bright yellow rudbeckias or any warm-hued autumnal foliage. A cordifolia hybrid, it reaches around 90cm tall and is the recipient of an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS.
