3 The Earth is at Perihelion. Today the Earth is closest to the sun, at its perihelion (also known as apogee). This happens about two weeks after the winter solstice. While this is a natural occurrence that does not result in any evident changes in the Earth’s climate, it is a day to understand the planetary phenomenon and the importance of the sun, the centre of our solar system.

Today marks the second year of celebratingy.
