Rona Grant moved into this beautiful but tired sandstone property in February 2018, and got stuck into renovating it straight away. ‘I knew exactly what I wanted to do on the first viewing with the estate agent,’ she reveals, ‘and that was to move the kitchen.’ She planned to replace the generously sized sitting room at the back of the house with a large kitchen, and turn the original kitchen into a garden room – a change that proved easier than she thought, as she could keep the existing kitchen while the new one was being installed. ‘We never had those agonising few days without a kitchen sink or a cooker!’ she reflects.
The new kitchen is now her favourite room and is laid out exactly as she hoped. Ripping out the original kitchen and creating a sunny garden room was an obvious next step, and she was able to install French doors to connect the inside and outside spaces.
