This Smirr poncho is great and packs into a small bag, so you can keep it in a backpack and simply throw it on when the heavens open. It also takes up much less space in the 'van than a standard waterproof.

The neck has press stud-type buttons to make donning easy and it's a really good length. If you are a keen cyclist there are also internal straps to secure to handlebars.

The key issue we found is that there's no elasticated hood so, to stop it falling down in the wind, our reviewer had to hold it with one hand, thus ending up with a river of water down her arm.
