Growing is in my blood. My grandparents had a lovely allotment in south London and I have happy childhood memories of long summer days there, dunking my little watering can into a vast, cool zinc tank, watching frogs in a shady pond and eating raspberries. My parents are green-fingered plot-holders, too. I started off with window boxes in my 20s while living in London, then progressed to a suburban allotment in my 30s. Today I have an established allotment in rural Oxfordshire, which is conveniently located just up my road.
