Like many children's authors, I wrote the books I wanted my children to read. In 2006, I was living in St Kitts, raising two avid readers, but I could not find enough Caribbean books that reflected their lives, and the first time I heard a child look at the book and exclaim “That's Brimstone Hill!” I knew I had fulfilled my goal.
