SEASONAL CHECKLIST

Spring checklist

◻ Plant varieties with single flowers that will provide easy access for insects, such as Verbena rigida, calendula, alyssum, French marigold and nasturtium.

◻ Look out for solitary bees, including the red mason bee (Osmia bicornis), nesting in holes in the walls of your house. Don’t be alarmed – they won’t cause any damage.

Help hedgehogs recently out of hibernation by leaving out a shallow dish of water and some meat-based dog or cat food.

Sow cornfield annuals such as cornflower, corn cockle and field poppy in a sunny spot, to attract a range of pollinating insects.
