Blades with big bellies make field dressing easier and more convenient because of their efficiency at processing meat. They also excel at handling food prep in camp. Of course, it’s more than just the blade shape, it’s also the handle—the ergonomics, material and how good it feels in your hand (page 56). The knife must feel comfortable and secure, otherwise it won’t get used. Period.
Designed by custom knifemaker Julio Diez, the Condor Tool & Knife Black Leaf was conceived as a hybrid fixed blade, blending the best of the tactical and outdoor worlds in one knife. The 5.4-inch clip-point blade is 1095 carbon steel and sports an eye-catching two-tone finish, with the flats in a black coat and the bevels in a machine satin finish. The blade swoops down in a belly to handle food prep chores like a pro. A notched thumb rest on the blade spine helps you apply down pressure and enhance control. The handle is ergonomically shaped with an integral single guard and bird’s-beak butt to prevent fore and aft, excellent for its light weight, strength and good allweather grip. Overall length: 10.4 inches.
