Historic and picturesque Bridgetown, the self-styled winter capital of Western Australia, is sometimes called “Fridgetown” because it can get pretty cold in the winter months.
It never quite snows but the climate is almost European, which may be what attracted German-born chef Wilhelm Grothum and wife Genevieve Davies to join the army of tree changers and hobby farmers who in recent years have moved to the town, 270km southeast of Perth.
On their first viewing of the property, says Wilhelm, “My wife looked around the cottage while I just stood on the verandah staring at the fruit trees and all the beautiful fruit on the ground. I thought it was such a waste; surely there was a better way to use that
