MONTREUX, Switzerland, May 1976. David Bowie and his family had recently moved to the nearby village of Blonay to escape the madding crowds (and possibly to avoid paying UK tax). Among the British superstar musicians with a similar idea were Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and the initial demos for . “At that time we were living in a chalet near Montreux,” recalls Greg Lake’s wife Regina. “I am not sure exactly how Greg and David first got to know each other but they probably met at the studio.” Bowie, of course, was a big admirer of King Crimson’s first incarnation, fronted by Lake.
