1993 JAGUAR XJ220

WHILE JAGUAR is no stranger to building interesting cars, it has rarely dipped its corporate toe into the supercar pool.

However the XJ220 changed that. In a feature on a sister car to the one shown here, we noted: “With no official support, the project began with a group of 12 volunteers who quickly earned the nickname ‘The Saturday Club’.

“The concept car was completed around 3:00am on October 18, 1988 – which happened to be the same day it was due to be unveiled at the British International Motor Show in Birmingham.”

The XJ220 is powered by a 3.5lt twin-turbo V6 claiming peak power of 405kW (543hp) at 7200rpm and 644Nm of torque at 4500rpm.

Around 270 were built, 69 as right-hand-drive.

This 1993 example is with Youngtimer Garage in Melbourne, priced at $1.05 million.
