The thrill of the Chase

THERE was plenty of drama when the Development Championships came to a climax at Chase Leisure Centre. One of the highlights was a ferocious featherweight final between George Thorpe (Spire) and Hasan Ilas (Round 4 Round).

They met in the centre of the ring and got straight down to business. Thorpe ripped in body shots and uppercuts, but there were holes in his defences. Ilas found his chin with uppercuts and sent him to his knees with a cuffing right.

Unhurt, Thorpe tore into Ilas on the resumption and gave him an eight count in the dying seconds after buckling his knees with a right. That was the final punch of a whirlwind opening round and the fists continued to fly in the second.
