When you say the dreaded words ‘China’ and ‘factory’ the average mental shorthand straight away equates them to visions of grotty sweatshops, stuffed with malnourished toddlers in dire hovels, stitching trainers for well-known brands, while overseers prowl about with bamboo poles to whack them over the bonce if they haven’t churned out sufficient numbers for their allotted bowl of rice. Yes, these places did and still do exist, some closer to home than we’d like to think.
