Bought for just £1,500 some twenty years ago, it's fair to say Martin Woods took his time over this mega S1 rebuild, and most of the work happened recently through Covid. 55-year-old Martin has been a petrolhead as long as he can remember; from darting around fields on an old moped as a nipper, he soon progressed to a Vauxhall Viva to hare around even more fields. “I unwisely bought an Austin Allegro as a first car when I was 19 once I'd passed my driving test,” he recalls. “I soon blew the engine up and bought another Viva to replace it.” Once again, Martin set to work destroying the 1256cc Vauxhall engine, swapping in a few similar units before his brother decided the best option was to slot inside a 1600 crossflow instead. “I guess this is where my connection with Ford began, and I went on to own numerous Cortinas and Escorts over the following years,” Martin remembers. “Most ended up being
