Some brick walls you smash down and some you don’t. My present project is more a pile of bricks, that I’ve been trying to erect as a viable structure to complete a small but irritating part of our family story. This regular breaking down and building up is after all what we’re doing as family historians, reassembling fragments of our past to make sense of them.
