CLASSIC AMERICAN PEOPLE Brooks Stevens

During the course of a long career Brooks Stevens designed numerous vehicles including Thirties streamlined motor homes, Jeep’s post-war station wagon, the Jeepster, the Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk, the Jeep Wagoneer, and the retro-car, the Excalibur. There were more (that never saw production) and on top of everything else he did unusual projects such as redesigning the Oscar Mayer ‘Wienermobile’ in the Fifties. Ever the innovator, Stevens designed the ‘Evinrude Lakester’ in 1970, a blending of automobile and speed boat – now that was wild!
