The safety of shark nets
SHARK nets have for years been used to protect people from ocean predators, but the nets are dangerous for sharks and other marine life that gets trapped in them.
Now a marine biologist from Stellenbosch in the Western Cape has come up with a safer alternative. Dr Sara Andreotti recently installed the SharkSafe Barrier at a private island in the Bahamas and there’s also one at Shark Alley in Gansbaai.
