A European getaway takes many forms: a romantic movie trope, a journey to find oneself, a hopeful bucket-list item.
Less common is an exotic European trip that takes place entirely within the borders of Texas. Yet, the Lone Star State offers impressive destinations that share names with Europe's finest mustsee attractions, often in recognition of the settlers who founded them.
Dublin
I visited Dublin, Ireland, before I went to Dublin, Texas. Though there's a lack of Irish accents around the Texan town, I found it to be just as charming as the one in Europe.
Dublin is the official Irish Capital of Texas, which means Saint Patrick's Day is a big deal. Enjoy themed food and drinks while merry music reverberates throughout the city, and don't forget to stop by the bright green clover that welcomes guests to Dublin.
Dublin Bottling Works was the firstthirst while walking around the city. Instead, I returned to the road with a 24-pack and several collectible bottle caps. Of note: The green apple causes Homer Simpson–esque drooling.
