Q My 2-week-old baby sleeps all day but is awake for most of the night. Is this normal? How can I get him to sleep at night and be more awake during the day?
This is a very common problem for newborns. We call this day-night reversal. In the dark world of thenight, with the exception of how much you are moving. And since movement is lulling, babies may in fact sleep more during the day and be more wakeful when you go to bed. Once they are born, it is important that babies begin to differentiate between day and night. Since newborns sleep almost constantly between feeds, they will not be wakeful either day or night in the early days. However, you want to encourage your baby to feed more frequently during the day and begin to stretch feeds at night.
