Although our daughter was introduced to the charms of hot tea on our first trip to England when she was 14 years old, she was in her 50s when she hosted her first official tea party.

“Mom, I have some tea stuff,” she told me, “but I’ll have to borrow a few things from you.”

“Of course,” I agreed. “What do you need?”

“Everything!” she wailed. “My friends are expecting a real English tea party.
