Christian leaders call for muted Christmas celebrations

South African Christian leaders have expressed solidarity with the call by their Palestinian brothers in Bethlehem for muted Christmas celebrations this year because of the war in Gaza.

Amid the Gaza devastation, Christian Palestinians have cancelled Christmas celebrations in the birthplace of Jesus.

This year, there will be no Christmas lights in Bethlehem, no festive parades in Jerusalem or elaborate decorations in Israel.

In South Africa, religious leaders have expressed solidarity with Christians in the Holy Land and against what is happening in Gaza.
