We weren’t a bit surprised that we had our smallest postbag yet for the call for submissions on the theme of Unreliable Narrator, inspired by the brilliant article by co-creator Chips Hardy in the December issue. It’s a challenging theme – it’s not the easiest of tasks to convey a narrative persona that says one thing and means something quite different, with a gap between what is said and what the words simultaneously conceal, and reveal. That’s not to say, though, that we didn’t have the usual tough choices to make for this page, because the writers to whom this submission call appealed sent in all kinds of deliciously dark, nuanced work, and the quality of what we received was very high.
