When Tesla unveiled its Model S more than a decade ago, it kick-started a serious push towards battery electric vehicles. Governments around the world started introducing mandates to ban or restrict the sale of new traditional internal combustion engine vehicles while automakers touted plans for an all-electric, or certainly majority electric, future when it came to cars and trucks.
Ford Motor Company had tried several EV experiments before, notably its battery electric Ranger pickup truck in the Nineties and then its Ford Focus Electric in the mid-to-late 2000s.
