Australia has a long and proud history within the Superbike World Championship.
It was the series that elevated Mick Doohan to greatness, it was the very first road-racing world championship round ever to be hosted on Australian soil and a series in which Australians have celebrated nine individual world championships.
No less than 18,000 spectators lined Oran Park Raceway when Australia played host to the eighth and penultimate round of the inaugural Superbike World Championship in 1988, and they all knew we had something special when 23-year-old wildcard Mick Doohan grabbed pole position, the fastest lap and both race wins.
