he women’s Surf-Freestyle got off to a faltering start in Hvide Sande, Denmark, when the wind dropped out on day one. But when the athletes returned to the water, they had to contend with a fresh format of one wave and one trick to count to their score. Some, with surfing experience, fared better than others. The French pair of Orane Ceris and Kylie Belloeuvre ended up battling for the third and fourth podium places, with Ceris coming out on top. The Dutch former world champion, Bowien van der Linden, gave Nia Suardiaz a run for her money. But Suardiaz’s Frontside 3 trick and wave score both slightly outpointed van der Linden’s best efforts to give
