Wilbert Napoleon, an Amazon Prime customer in California, renewed his annual subscription last June for $139. Amazon afterwards announced customers would have to pay an extra $2.99 a month to watch its Prime Video service free of advertisements. In response, Napoleon has launched a class auction lawsuit against series, starring Welsh actress Morfydd Clark (pictured), “failed to attract much critical or popular acclaim”. But that’s not Napoleon’s problem. True, Amazon will probably point to its terms and conditions and such court cases seldom win. Nevertheless, for Amazon, “it’s a grubby way out”. Rivals have waited for memberships to run out before pushing up prices. Loyal customers rightly feel short-changed.
