WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

When I read the article regarding the lack of horticultural education in the national curriculum ('What's a dandelion, Miss?', January issue), it brought back such vivid memories of my time at school back in the 1970s. At that time the school I attended had a dedicated rural science department which was separate from the main school buildings. It was a completely functioning smallholding/farm with employees and our wonderful teacher Mrs Loveday. She was the best teacher I ever had.

We were all paired up andthe pigs and sheep and, if we were lucky enough, to witness births, or sheep shearing! I discovered my love of all things to do with growing and caring for animals at that time and it was like a wonderful world had opened up to me.
